Spencer "Spence" Olchin is a fictional character in The King of Queens played by Patton Oswalt.

Spence is a very good friend of Doug Heffernan (Kevin James). Usually considered the loser of the group, he is often afraid of being kicked out of the group thinking he will be replaced by Doug's cousin Danny Heffernan (Gary Valentine). Spence works at the subway where he collects tolls inside his booth. Spence has stated that he loves Dark Shadows (Soap Opera about Vampires) and other somewhat nerdy shows and subjects (Comic books etc.) In one episode, Spence states that he is of Albanian descent.

His father left him and his mother when Spence was young, and so his mother became obsessed with him, trying to devote all her free time to him. His birthday is on Valentine's day, which leads to some awkward moments. On one occasion Doug, Deacon and Ritchie try to throw him a surprise party, which turns badly when Spence's mother gets involved.

He is often ridiculed for his many allergies. Doug once stated that Spence is "allergic to everything, the guy’s like one sesame seed away from living in a plastic bubble." At one point, Carrie tried to bring him together with her friend, yet she unintentionally put a bowl of nuts on the table. Spence ate them, later resulted in him puking. Interestingly, Carrie's friend showed some sympathy towards Spence. This was the first time Spence's nut allergy has been presented.

Spence is often ridiculed for having some stereotypical homosexual qualities. On one occasion, Danny married Spence in order to obtain a free TV, then, although not depicted on screen, got divorced shortly after receiving the television. Although he rarely has a girlfriend, Spence is not gay. He has had only one steady girlfriend, Denise (Rachel Dratch). He and Denise eventually broke up.

Spence was a longtime virgin (although in the episode Bun Dummy, he claimed to have done it with an attractive Spanish teacher, but later he remembered that it was actually the home ec teacher with a limped posture), and lived with his mother until well into his thirties. Spence grew tired of living with his mother and decided to get a new place. Although this idea was not ready to be put into action, he was supported by Doug. The latter didn't do so in order to help his friend out, but to give him the guest room at his house so Carrie's friend and especially her supremely boring husband could not stay there for the holidays. Spence was later held by Doug from looking for an apartment on purpose for the reason mentioned. While in Doug's home he had a few embarrassing "encounters" with Carrie (he was in the bathroom, wearing only a bathrobe). He later moved into an apartment with Danny. Ever since both have tried to impress Holly, neither having success. Deacon Palmer (Victor Williams) moved in with Spence, after Deacon had been kicked out by his wife Kelly (Merrin Dungey). But they got back together and he moved back with her.
