Eutheria

Eutheria are mammals where the females have a womb, allowing the young to develop for a period before birth. They are classified into four cohorts which in turn are divided into several orders (Ferungulata is divided into Superorders, then into orders):

  • Chiroptera (bats)
  • Edentata (armadillos, sloths, giant anteaters)
  • Pholidota (pangolins)
  • Primates

  • Rodents
  • Lagomorpha (rabbits, hares)

• Cohort Mutica
  • Cetacea (whales, dolphins, porpoises)

• Cohort Ferungulata
  • Superorder Ferae
    • Carnivora
  • Superorder Protungulata
    • Tubulidentata (aardvarks, Cape anteaters)
  • Superorder Paenungulata
    • Hyracoidea (hyraxes)
    • Proboscidea (elephants)
    • Sirenia (dugongs, manatees)
  • Superorder Mesaxonia
    • Perissodactyla (rhinoceroses, horses, zebras, donkeys)
  • Superorder Paraxonia
    • Artiodactyla (pigs, camels, cattle, deer)
