Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States of America. It is the day on which Americans give thanks for all the good things in the world. It is marked by feasting and other celebrations. People like eating turkeys during this day.

The holiday started as a way to remember the kindness of Native Americans towards the Pilgrims who landed in Massecheussets aboard the Mayflower in 1620, and a way to give thanks for the blessings of America. They didn't have much food during the harsh winter, and the Native Americans shared. Typical foods include corn and squash.

The holiday was formally recognized by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. It takes place on the fourth Thursday in November.
