Texas

Texas is a state of the United States. You don't mess with Texas is their motto.

It is second largest by land area. It is in the southern United States. It has lots of desert and a decent amount of coast. It borders Mexico to the south and the Gulf of Mexico on the east.

It was originally inhabited by various Indian tribes such as Apaches and Comanches, then was conquered by the Spanish in the 1500s and 1600s. In the early 1800s Mexico declared independence from Spain. Waves of settlers arrived from the United States, and then Texas declared independence from Mexico, fought a short war, and was independent for a few years before being annexed by the United States around the time of the Mexican-American War.
