Georgia's 6th congressional district[edit]

Encyc: Georgia's 6th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Georgia. Georgia's 6th congressional district has existed since January 3, 2013.

Wikipedia: Georgia's 6th congressional district has existed since the 29th Congress (1845–1847), the first Congress in which U.S. representatives were elected from districts rather than at-large. Georgia gained a sixth U.S. representative for the first time in the 13th Congress (1813–1815). --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 09:47, 5 January 2022 (EST)

I took out the contested statement for now. Hopefully the original author will return and clear things up. Enki (talk) 13:53, 5 January 2022 (EST)

hi.[edit]

I would like to have moderations off, if you could??? If not I understand, thanks. Piki877778 (talk) 21:36, 30 August 2023 (EDT)

Done. Thank you for your contributions. Enki (talk) 13:54, 31 August 2023 (EDT)

Why Google doesnt push Rankings?[edit]

In my years working on websites I managed to learn a bit of Search Engine Optimization.

The current database has plenty of links directing Google's crawlers to dead end roads (the pages which are still to be created with red linking text). Ang Google doesnt like wasting their crawl budget, so that will encourage Google to crawl less frquently your website.

I recommend creating a very simple robots file and blocking all crawlers (the legit crawlers like Googlebot will respect the orders on robots.txt file, while the non-legit scrappers wont, so this is just to help Search Engines, but not a security measure).

Here there are instructions from Google on how to do so

File could be something like

  • User-agent: *
  • Allow: /
  • Disallow: */index.php?title=

Adittionally I would suggest you to create an XML sitemap )not sure how to do that without wordpress, but I´m sure you can investigate.

The XML sitemap gives a list of your existing pages, and also provides information about when the last update of each page done. So when Search Engines find your website,m they will inmediately go to explore the new updates done.

Said all that, if you dont want to create a sitemap )WIKIPEDIA doesnt have it either. Then you can remove the last line of the robots.txt file.

Let me know if you need any adittional help about the topic and I can ask a colleague who knows more about the topic.

Cheers!

Thank you for the tips. We did have a sitemap for a while. Mediawiki has a way to create sitemaps but it's a little complicated. I don't think it did any good, and it was very out of date, so I deleted it. Like you said, Wikipedia doesn't have one either. I do have Google configured to check the recent changes XML feed, which should help.
I will take another look at the robots.txt file. Enki (talk) 22:52, 11 October 2023 (EDT)
So I followed up on this and ended up copying Wikipedia's robots.txt file (cc-by-sa). There were a couple of complications like how images are handled and I just figured it would be easier to go with what works for Wikipedia, realizing a lot of the disallow statements will probably do nothing because we have different article names. If strange stuff starts popping up in Google results we'll have a good starting point for fixing it. Enki (talk) 22:44, 28 October 2023 (EDT)

I'm back![edit]

I'm back and plan on creating 1,000 new articles on historic wars, conflicts, battles, and sieges! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 23:24, 8 June 2024 (EDT)

Very good! You know we love our military history around here. I've been reading Victor Hansons's The End of Everything and thinking we should do more to remember civilizations who were wiped out. Enki (talk) 08:46, 10 June 2024 (EDT)

Editor rights[edit]

Hey, can I request for "editor" rights? I can't access my special contributions! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 07:13, 23 June 2024 (EDT)

Done. Sorry about all the technical hurdles but you should be good to go with editor. Enki (talk)

Template:Wikidata image[edit]

Hello Enki. Can you remove this template from Template:Infobox person? It's disrupting pages as the template is a dead red link. Check Dove Hepburn for example. You will see Template:Wikidate image in red at the top of the page. --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 16:50, 28 June 2024 (EDT)

I think I got it. Hopefully I didn't mess up the template. Enki (talk) 22:34, 29 June 2024 (EDT)
It now says "2=}}" Update: I replaced Template:Infobox person on Dove Hepburn with Template:Infobox Person. --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 00:44, 30 June 2024 (EDT)

Adminship[edit]

Can I request for adminship? I just thought it would be cool to protect my page Dove Hepburn, so only I and other admins can edit it. Also, if any vandalism occurs, I am willing to defend Encyc. I know it's a huge responsibility, but I aim to protect Encyc from vandals and make Encyc the perfect encyclopedia. I'm already writing great history articles. Plus there aren't any active admins (apart from yourself). I won't let you down! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 01:38, 30 June 2024 (EDT)

Sorry, not yet. No real need, not with the moderation extension and all. Enki (talk) 20:32, 30 June 2024 (EDT)
I understand. I will continue to work hard for Encyc, writing many more articles, and impress you regardless! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 23:58, 30 June 2024 (EDT)
Sounds good. Thanks! Enki (talk) 14:20, 2 July 2024 (EDT)

Main page quotes[edit]

Add this to the main page under Tom Waits...Pick which one's your favorite!

Original quotes written by me:

"True writing is the alchemy that turns raw thoughts into golden insights, illuminating the paths of our shared human journey."Dove Hepburn

"Effective writing is the meticulous art of transforming abstract ideas into clear, compelling narratives, thereby enriching the collective understanding and enhancing the human experience."Dove Hepburn

"Exceptional writing meticulously crafts thoughts into articulate expressions, bridging the gap between diverse minds and fostering a profound connection through shared knowledge and insight."Dove Hepburn --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 01:08, 3 July 2024 (EDT)

Dove Hepburn[edit]

Dove Hepburn surpasses Main Page with over 1,057,514 views and becomes Encyc's most popular article. --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 03:04, 8 July 2024 (EDT)

Wait what? That was fast. Enki (talk) 18:15, 8 July 2024 (EDT)

Dove Hepburn[edit]

I speak a multitude of languages aside from English. Is there a way to make more pages on Dove Hepburn in other languages? I can speak 30 other languages! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 07:19, 16 July 2024 (EDT)

The way Wikipedia does it, they have separate subdomains and volunteers who know each language. I don't think we're ready for that yet. If we do get some momentum going in English, es.encyc.org (Spanish Encyc) would probably be next. Enki (talk) 17:22, 16 July 2024 (EDT)
Maybe as a short term solution we could write Dove Hepburn (Spanish language version), but I'd be hesitant to go too far down that path because it could generate a lot of extra work when we do start the language-specific Encycs. Enki (talk)
--LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 11:15, 17 July 2024 (EDT)
As someone who speaks Spanish and other languages, I could do that hard work! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 08:28, 25 November 2024 (EST)

Template:Infobox Person[edit]

honorific_prefix and honorific_suffix is missing from the infobox! That's Template:Infobox Person. --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 19:43, 22 July 2024 (EDT)

Years ago we had some trouble with templates and I imported some older versions just to get something running. Many of the current versions on Wikipedia are mixed up with Wikidata and hard to get to work here. I can take a look and try to edit in those two fields. Enki (talk) 13:43, 23 July 2024 (EDT)
I would love to request that when I am finished with the Dove Hepburn article, I'd love it to be fully protected from vandalism with a fully protected template. I'm pretty sure there'd be gold padlock to the top right, correct? I will let you know when I would like it fully protected. At the moment I have a lot more information to add! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 22:43, 24 July 2024 (EDT)
I could probably lock it down for at least a few years, but can't promise forever. How long were you thinking? Enki (talk) 09:20, 29 July 2024 (EDT)
I was thinking protect it so only people listed as "admins", "bureaucrats" and "editors" can edit it! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 05:05, 30 July 2024 (EDT)

Encyc mobile app[edit]

I would love to have Encyc on Google Play. Maybe recommend a dark mode for the site. Also some gadgets like category Hotcat or a clock in the top right corner. Maybe have a visual editor mode! Actually I would like Citizen to be the permanent style look. It's much easier. It has light and dark mode. --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 20:22, 28 July 2024 (EDT)

Good questions. First let's talk about dark mode. (explanation for anyone else reading along) We have the Citizen skin installed, which includes a very good dark mode. To enable it click Preferences --> Appearance --> Citizen --> Save. If dark mode doesn't automatically turn on you might need to look in preferences and tell it to automatically detect system preferences or to always use dark mode.
I thought about making Citizen the default but I often switch back and forth between Encyc and WMF projects and MediaWiki.org. I was finding the quick transition too difficult. Now that Wikipedia finally has a dark mode I think we could probably just use theirs at the next upgrade. Of course we would keep Citizen installed for those who prefer it.
As for a mobile app, I think it's disappointing that MediaWiki hasn't released an app that can be used to access any generic MediaWiki installation. They spend so much time and energy supporting WMF projects and sometimes the little guys get forgotten.
Visual editor... request noted. I never liked it but if enough people want it, we could probably make it happen. Do you use it on other projects? Enki (talk) 09:36, 29 July 2024 (EDT)

Encyc app on a smartphone[edit]

Short description template[edit]

This template has issues and will not display the short description. For example when you type an article in the search box, it will say something like this: Dove Hepburn and below "British millenarian (1022–2024)", but it doesn't show it! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 22:01, 8 August 2024 (EDT)

Hello :)[edit]

Nice to meet you. I like the wiki logo a lot. I was wondering if I could be taken off moderation. LeicesterLass invited me here about a month ago. William Lupinacci (talk) 14:06, 4 September 2024 (EDT)

Welcome to Encyc! I was just thinking it was time to take you off moderation. It's done. Thank you for the compliment about the logo. It is Pancake, one of our mascots. Enki (talk) 14:44, 4 September 2024 (EDT)
Thank you, how do I upload photos? I would make sure they abide by Fair Use, copyright law etc William Lupinacci (talk) 08:49, 6 September 2024 (EDT)

Done. I never messed with changing my signature before but it does look good in green. Maybe it's time. Enki (talk) 19:55, 19 September 2024 (EDT)
You can even do triple colours! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 20:36, 19 September 2024 (EDT)

Site upgrade[edit]

I know that the "dark mode" feature ain't your thing, but the idea of adding a clock in the top right would be cool as a gadget. Is there a way to enable some cool gadgets and add them in the preferences section? --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 20:55, 19 September 2024 (EDT)

Are you kidding? I love dark mode. Encyc has had dark mode available for many years. We started back when it was just a perennial wish list item on Wikipedia, and we even made it the default for a little while. If you like dark mode, go to preferences and set skin to "Citizen". Then choose the dark setting or follow system preferences if yours are set to dark. I've tried Wikipedia's current experimental dark mode and I think Citizen does a better job for the most part.
The next upgrade should be coming around December 2024, when MediaWiki 1.43 LTS is due for release. Enki (talk) 21:27, 19 September 2024 (EDT)
The Dove Hepburn article needs multiple images. An article isn't complete without images. A picture says a thousand words. For at least each paragraph or section needs an image (from Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons only) left and right with a thumb. Each image at least 150px. Images should be based on battles or sieges from the 11th century to the 21st century. I have also found at least 3000 references that I can add. In the meantime, I'm creating more articles and creating the wiki's catgeories that are red links! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 20:50, 22 September 2024 (EDT)
Images are easy to bring in from Wikipedia Commons. We have Mediawikiwiki:InstantCommons. For an example, check this edit. Enki (talk) 21:31, 22 September 2024 (EDT)
Can you lend a hand? --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 22:25, 22 September 2024 (EDT)

Fun Facts for Encyc (Did You Know)[edit]

Hey Enki! I have numerous of books full of daily facts that you could include to the Main Page. Perhaps add 8 fresh facts per day! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 00:31, 28 September 2024 (EDT)

  • ...that 16 tunnels, many for tube lines, run beneath London's River Thames?
  • ...that the Balkan comic opera Ero the Joker was first performed on November 2, 1935?
  • ...that the Tokyo Monorail, which travels at speeds of up to 80 kph, was constructed to coincide with the 1964 Summer Olympics?
  • ...that jumping plant lice and aphids are considered to be the "primitive" group within the Hemiptera order of true bugs?
  • ...that in 1971, Pakistani writer Eqbal Ahmad was indicted on charges of conspiracy to kidnap Henry Kissinger?
  • ...that the catchphrase "Kowabunga !" was popularized by the NBC program Howdy Doody?
  • ...that in 1916, Berlin, Ontario changed its name to Kitchener due to World War I-era anti-German sentiment?
  • ...that the U.S. Postal Service's POSTNET uses a checksum to verify zip codes?

--LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 00:41, 28 September 2024 (EDT)

It's a cool idea, but wouldn't really drive traffic to our article pages. I don't really have the time to make that many edits to the main page either, to keep it fresh.Enki (talk) 11:13, 28 September 2024 (EDT)
Let's spread the news of Encyc on TikTok! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 19:43, 28 September 2024 (EDT)
haha I don't think my brain could survive TikTok. I already spend too much time on FB/X/Reddit. But if you want to promote Encyc on TikTok, go for it!
And just a reminder if you like X or Reddit stop by our pages.
Enki (talk) 20:36, 29 September 2024 (EDT)

Short description[edit]

Articles need the short description. When you type in the article name in search, it displays the article name and British "quaker" (1823-1877) below. --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 00:06, 11 October 2024 (EDT)

I can install Mediawikiwiki:Extension:ShortDescription. Do you think that this would solve the problem? Enki (talk) 08:14, 11 October 2024 (EDT)
I've heard of that. Go ahead! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 16:58, 11 October 2024 (EDT)
OK it seems to be working.Enki (talk) 19:28, 11 October 2024 (EDT)

Dark mode[edit]

I would prefer dark mode with Vector 2022 look. I really prefer this look. Dark mode would help because I spend too much time on a screen, and dark mode will help my eyesight! On Wikipedia, they have the size of text from small, standard and large. The width as standard and wide, and colour with Automatic, light, and dark! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 10:00, 21 October 2024 (EDT)

I agree dark mode is cool. I was a little disappointed that all the Vector 2022 dark mode options seem to be reserved for MediaWiki 1.43, which is not due for release until December 2024. When it is available, I will do the upgrade. In the short term, if you're logged in you can use the Citizen skin. In some ways it's better than the Vector version of dark mode. Better colors and some cool tricks like quick access to search with a single key press. Have you tried it out? Enki (talk) 10:32, 21 October 2024 (EDT)
Sounds good! I would also love a live clock mode too. With Miraheze Meta, they have all the cool tools! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 12:53, 21 October 2024 (EDT)
I just checked Miraheze Meta and I don't see a dark mode or a live clock. They're also running Version 1.42.3. Do you have a link to what you're interested in? Enki (talk) 13:33, 21 October 2024 (EDT)
I did make a wiki on there and all the features were available! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 17:55, 21 October 2024 (EDT)

Life quote[edit]

"You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. And don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking. Don't settle!"Dame Dove Hepburn (1022–2024) --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 11:33, 25 October 2024 (EDT)

Citizen[edit]

Encyc should have "citizen" as the main skin. It's just looks so cool and it displays your number of edits and has a dark mode too. If only it had a live clock counter with the date, or maybe have a blue colour mode! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 04:42, 27 October 2024 (EDT)

Sure! Yes, I think we tried it years ago but I flipped it back because there didn't seem to be any interest either way. But I'd be willing to return to Citizen, at least until the next big update. On the downside, for people who spend a lot of time going back and forth between here and Wikipedia, it can be a little bit disorienting. But it's better-looking, works better, and has better dark mode. I was just waiting for at least one user to request it.
Another question to think about is the mobile skin. Right now it is set like Wikipedia, using Extension:Mobilefrontend and Skin:MinervaNeue. Citizen's mobile skin is actually pretty good. It does autodetect for dark mode. There were a few bugs when I last tried it but that was years ago, and the main author of Citizen seems to have been continuously active since then.
I tried to find that live clock counter thing you mentioned on Miraheze and couldn't find it. Is there a specific extension you can link to? Enki (talk) 09:37, 27 October 2024 (EDT)

I'm considering going back to Vector 2022. Popups and the menu bar are displaying some weird behavior on various-sized screens. I think somehow Citizen got worse than it was a few years ago. Are you seeing the same things? Enki (talk) 14:54, 28 October 2024 (EDT)
On my end? No. It looks perfect for me! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 15:36, 28 October 2024 (EDT)
Citizen was getting on my nerves so I reverted back to Vector-2022. Citizen does this weird thing where it moves your controls depending on size and shape of your screen. It's also clunky on mobile where the nav bar appears and disappears unpredictably. sorry. If you want to use it on desktop, just sign in and pick Citizen skin in your preferences. Enki (talk) 14:45, 2 November 2024 (EDT)
Homie I see what you mean. It does the weird glitch on mobile mode! Also, you prolly wanna see the look of this wiki. It's fire! https://encyclopediarobotica.org/wiki/Main_Page --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 16:55, 2 November 2024 (EDT)

Quote for you[edit]

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become!"Dame Dove Hepburn (1022–2024) --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 12:43, 28 October 2024 (EDT)

Dove Hepburn and 3000 edits![edit]

Hey! I need your help! Can you add information to Hepburn's biography section and refine or improve it. There is a page called Dove Hepburn historic battles and needs to be added there! Need at least 18 images of battles or portraits to each section of the article to the right with a thumbnail. If you want, feel free to refine or improve the entire article. The more information, the better. I don't mind a long article. Hepburn had over 1000 year lifespan, so maybe increase with other topics like her travel ventures like Eisriesenwelt in Austria and her travels around the world. Maybe increase her career section and add more books, movies and TV shows she's been in. Maybe add a theater, radio and video games section (you know like a filmography). So much to add! Make up some more movies or show names and her experience during the production. ChatGPT can really help. I've also done over 3000 edits! If you can do that I will happily make many more articles. I'm also sharing Encyc on TikTok. It's my lifetime mission to help improve and expand Encyc and also become a Goodwill UNICEF ambassador. Never forget me! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 17:03, 31 October 2024 (EDT)

Delete request[edit]

Can you please delete Dove Hepburn Rap Battles and File:Tic Tac Toe vs Hangman.jpeg? --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 20:17, 7 November 2024 (EST)

Page previews[edit]

Is there a way to remove the ( ) from the page previews? I mean the birth date and death date in the preview Dove Hepburn? It's meant to display as Dame Dove Kathleen Hepburn was a British actress, not Dame Dove Kathleen Hepburn (10 January 1900 - 29 March 2024) was a British actress. Wikipedia doesn't show the birth and death date when you hover over an article link and preview the page! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 21:22, 11 November 2024 (EST)

Hmm I don't know. Maybe check Mediawikiwiki:Page Previews and Mediawikiwiki:Extension:TextExtracts and Mediawikiwiki:Extension:Popups Enki (talk) 23:28, 11 November 2024 (EST)

Category error[edit]

The title "Category:Nobel Prize in Literature winners" has been banned from creation. It matches the following disallowed titles list entry: .*bel.* This seems nonsense! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 14:07, 12 November 2024 (EST)

Fixed. Enki (talk) 21:30, 13 November 2024 (EST)

Birth date and age template[edit]

This module has not been installed so the template displays as an error in infoboxes! Can you fix it? --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 22:16, 14 November 2024 (EST)

Modules[edit]

Hi! Templates "Birth date and age" and "Authority control" modules haven't been installed and looks a mess on Dove Hepburn! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 07:21, 18 November 2024 (EST)

I imported them but am still seeing an error on Dove Hepburn. Anything that says "wikibase" and "nil value" is related to templates that call on Wikidata for their data. I don't have that set up for a variety of reasons. I might have written an essay years ago or maybe imagined I did. tl;dr I prefer to have all the info here rather than on a remote database because it reduces barriers to participation. Someone who is not particularly tech-savvy can edit wikitext but they're not going to know how to go to another site for data entry, and I'm not particularly enthused to become dependent on another site for that function anyway. Enki (talk) 16:44, 18 November 2024 (EST)
Whatever just happened, the references look weird now. check here! It displays as

"Lua error in Module:Citation/CS1/Configuration at line 2083: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value).

This might take some time to fix. I have to revert some templates and modules to before the Wikidata nonsense. Enki (talk) 19:32, 18 November 2024 (EST)
I think it's either "cite web" or "cite book"! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 20:25, 18 November 2024 (EST)
It's fixed. Enki (talk) 07:39, 19 November 2024 (EST)
Can we also fix the infobox person and have the same Wikipedia one? I tendly use "Infobox people"! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 20:59, 18 November 2024 (EST)
Maybe later. Enki (talk) 07:39, 19 November 2024 (EST)

Dove Hepburn[edit]

This page is ready to be semi-protected or fully-protected. Any new information I want to add or request will just be references, but that will be between every 1-3 months! References will look like this, example: [1] I will tell you the dates my future rap battles were released and retrieve date would be the same day or today's date Click on the "edit link" and check the ref link code! --LeicesterLass (Talk to me!) 08:23, 25 November 2024 (EST)

Nice work. We'll see if it becomes a target of vandalism but for now there's no reason to protect it. Enki (talk) 09:56, 25 November 2024 (EST)
