Editing Virginia

'''Virginia''' is a state in the United States.  It was first settled in 1607 by the English.  Many of the early settlers were [[Scotch-Irish]], and they pushed over the Appalachian mountains quickly.

Early growth was fueled by [[tobacco]] farming, which was very labor intensive and resulted in the importation of African slaves.  Later, with the decline in tobacco and growth of [[cotton]] farming, some of their descendants were sold to plantations in the deep South.

Virginia led the Confederacy and was devastated during the [[American Civil War|Civil War]].  Some of the western counties seceded from the state and formed [[West Virginia]], which was quickly admitted to the Union.
