It soon became the "arsenal of democracy", producing more than two thirds of Allied munitions. Before its formal entry into the war, the government found creative ways to funnel aid to the Allies. The Lend-Lease Act (1941) helped a financially stretched Great Britain with ships and aircraft. In the Soviet Union, American trucks greatly improved the logistical situation. By the end of the war, motorized Allied armies were much more mobile than the Germans and Japanese, who were still largely dependent on horse-drawn transport.
